Website Design 101: Launching your New Website

    9-launching-your-new-websiteNow that your new website is up and running, no doubt you want to shout about it from the rooftops.  Great – go ahead.  But don’t spend too long up on that roof.  There’s work to be done.  Telling your family and friends all about your new snazzy website is not enough!  To get your website the attention it deserves, you have to direct the right kind of people to it – clients who want to buy your specific product or services.  So concentrate your efforts on attracting clients who are interested in what you have to offer - the more the merrier and the sooner the better. 

    Inbound Marketing - In a previous Website Design 101 article, we talked about good quality backlinks and their value in generating first class traffic to your website.  Good quality backlinks also enhance the credibility of your website in the eyes of the almighty search engines.  By setting up company pages on social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter you have an immediate and controllable opportunity to link back to your website.  Also check out blogs on other niche websites relevant to your business.  Leave intelligent comments on some of the articles which are effectively backlinks to your website.

    Outbound Marketing – When you have a database, however big or small, send everyone regular (but not too regular) emails with genuinely exciting offers, news and interesting information about your offerings.  Personalise these emails as people are far more likely to open it if it’s addressed to them personally.  Make sure the title of the email is sums up the offer and doesn’t sound too spammy – if it sounds too good to be true, it will be heading straight for the recycle bin.

    To improve the effectiveness of your direct email marketing, add clients who are interested in your product or services to your contact database - encourage them to sign up for a newsletter online, use the online ‘Contact Us’ form or ask people to leave their contact details when they visit your store.  “But what’s in it for me?” they may well ask.  So tell them they’ll get emails with exclusive offers - and before you know it, they’ll be signing up.  Well humans are humans after all and people don’t want to miss out on a good deal.

    By getting involved in forums specific to your products or services, you can start to engage with other people there.  There are a lot of people who are very active on such forums and if they think you have the expertise and knowledge about the area they are interested in, you can bet your bottom dollar they will want to know more. Encourage them to visit your website and sign up for more information. 

    Customer Engagement – There is nothing quite like social media – it offers a whole new way of marketing your products and services.  It’s interactive and allows for a rapid response to a customer’s question.  You can speak directly to your followers easily and update them on new product launches, specials and general news.  By interacting with your followers and keeping them interested, you can set up a community interested in your brand.

    Be an Authority - Check out Yahoo! Answers.  This is a great website offering all manner of advice to people’s queries.  Set yourself up as an authority in your field and answer relevant questions.  As you supply more answers, you will reach a target which allows you to include a link to your website in your replies.  This is a very powerful SEO tool as Google ranks Yahoo! Answers highly especially if you attain the heady heights of Best Answer.

    These are just some ideas that should help you launch your website with a bang.  They may take time and effort but your rewards will become visible as your website gets more hits, leading to the potential for more sales.
