Basic Website Usability Tips

Written by

Web design is not the easiest process in the world but with that being said there are plenty of professional and excellent designers who know exactly what they are doing. Unfortunately there are designs who simply don't know what they are doing - and on top of it, overprice there service based on the lack of knowledge that they have.

So here are usability tips that you should know, incase your web designer doesn’t.

    • Using whitespaces between paragraphs and in the left and right margins increases comprehension by almost 20%

    • Narrative presentation enhances comprehension and memory. Narrative advertisements create more positive attitude about the brand and a higher intent to purchase.

    • Users don’t want to wait, but they will wait longer for better content. Users will wait between 8 to 10 seconds for information on the web, depending on the quality of the information they are waiting for. Most of the time websites will only have 7 seconds to convince the user that they have found what they are looking for. Statistics have proven that websites with great content gain an extra 1 to 4 seconds if the users know that the content is going to be good. Those extra few seconds could be the difference between a customer or just a brief visitor.

    • Consumer purchase behavior is driven by perceived security, privacy, quality of content and design – in that exact order. This should be given, but many designers and owners do not think about this important fact. When purchasing from a website it can be extremely nice, functional and completely up to date but when the ‘SSL or HTTPS’ are broken (security certificates) people will not buy.
