Social media provides an instant access to information throughout the world, thus giving businesses the ability to share news about their product and services with people that are out of reach. Social media is one of the fastest growing (free) benefits of technology today. Not too long ago businesses were limited to marketing and to connections within their neighborhood or at best, in their country. With social media, the door is now open to share your business with the world.
This can raise a big question, “how does social media apply to my company? I don’t do business with anyone outside of my states!” Of course, that may be the case but consider what social media can do for you and your company.
As you may or may not know more than 50% of the United States population is on some type of social networking website. Your Cousin Vinny or Aunt Sally are on facebook and they are your core network. They interact with connections that you may not have within your core network. As a result opportunities can occur that necessarily wouldn’t. Just like in the dating world, social media is used to meet people that you would not meet and although it might not mean a date for you – it could mean more business for your company. Relationship building is just one of the many benefits of social media and knowing about social media is only part of the battle. Once you realize how important social media is for your company you then need to create your account and then understand how important it is to use your social media the correct way.
